Norman Borlaug Food & Hunger 5k

Homecoming 2012: Legendary U and Project Food Security have teamed up to present the Norman Borlaug Food & Hunger 5k. All of the proceeds from this 5k race benefit Second Harvest Heartland in honor of Norman Borlaug, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate and U of M graduate who has been credited with saving more than a billion people from starvation. Not only does this race benefit Norman Borlaug but it also helps support hunger relief in the state of Minnesota. Currently, there are over 600,000 people in Minnesota who are hungry.

Race Information

This family friendly race is open to all ages and dogs are welcome! Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in age and gender categories. The race also boasts an exciting post-race St. Paul celebration featuring food, giveaways and interactive activities with U of M organizations and local businesses.

Race Swag:

All participants will receive the official 2012 Homecoming T-shirt as part of their race entry as well as exciting promotional items and coupons. The first 100 registrants will receive a custom Homecoming drawstring bag!

Registration Details and Fees

Online Registration: September 10 – October 3

Day of Registration October 6 ONLY between 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

Fees:

  • Online Registration: $25, all participants
  • Day of Registration: $30, all participants

If you wish, additional donations to the Norman Borlaug Food &Hunger Drive can be made here. Participants are also encourage to bring non-perishable food items or additional cash donations to the race

Race Registration is not transferable or refundable

Timing and Results

Clocks, Timing, and Results:

A digital clock will be located at the finish line. This 5k also uses a computerized ChampionChip timing device to score the race. Searchable race results will be available following the event here. Results will also be sent via email to participants.

 

 

Course Information

Course Information:   
  • A rural run in a big city! Run past horses, through cornfields, alongside research buildings. . . all on the St. Paul Campus!
  • The route does have a few hills and has a few blocks of gravel road, but what’s nature without some rocks and bumps?!
  • The race will start and finish near the St. Paul Lawn Area. Join fellow racers and fans post-race to celebrate your run with food and interactive booths & games at the St. Paul Celebration!

Getting to the event

Campus Connector: Buses begin running at 9:30 from Willey Hall and depart every 20 minutes on Saturdays. For more info click here!

Metro TransitTake a city bus to campus at find routes at www.metrotransit.org

Biking: Bike on over to the St. Paul Campus and park in front of the St. Paul Student Center or around campus.

Walking: Simply head on over to St. Paul campus!

Parking: Driving or Carpooling? Free to park in lot sc101
